¡día 6! - 6/17

 Hola!!

I’m a little late to post here but I’m filling you in on day 6 (the 17th)!

We started off the day wandering around the San Telmo market. We hung out in a leather store for about 9 million years because you’ve never seen (or smelled) such beautiful leather in your whole life! After that, we left the market for a little because we were too early so most shops weren’t open. We wandered around to a coffee shop down the street (adorable btw) and played cards to kill some time before heading back to the market. Adele wiped the floor with the rest of us. After we finished our game we walked back and luckily more shops were open! We walked around for several hours buying gifts for our families and souvenirs for ourselves. We met some lovely shop owners, one of whom had a poster that his parents bought for him in 1968 and he still has it. He was adorable and so kind. We ended our morning in the market with some lunch & it was the best pizza I’ve ever had.

The rest of our day was la plata! We took a bus (a nice bus not the public transport buses thank the lord) to la plata for an exchange with Tous ensemble. We spent the first couple hours there exploring a beautiful cathedral and parts of the city. The roads are horrible and confusing and most intersections have 5 converging streets but besides fearing for our lives we had a good time. Nobody was hit by a car so that’s good. When we reconvened we went to the church and had some time to warm up and sing a little by ourselves and then with some of Tous. I stood next to this beautiful girl named Sofi and when I complimented her English she gave me a hug. We now follow each other on instagram and we are best friends I think. Before the concert started we had little treats and coffee with our new friends and had the opportunity to talk with them and get to know them. I love having conversations despite the language barrier. They were such lovely people. The concert went very well! Tous is a fabulous group with phenomenal programming and unified sound. I really enjoyed their set. Our set went well and for “Poor Wayfaring Stranger” Adara sang from a balcony which added so much depth to the piece. Her solo is perfect normally but it was extra perfect in that space. After the concert we talked to our friends some more before embarking back to the hotel to end the night. I met another member of the ensemble whose name was also Lucy! We too now follow each other on Instagram and we are now best friends. We got back to the hotel and went our separate ways. I went to my room to call my parents & my friend & then promptly conked out. It was a great day!

Some extra notes that I forgot to mention! It was freezing! So so so cold! Everyone was shivering especially when we had to shed some layers for our concert in the refrigerator that was the venue. A beautiful refrigerator, but a refrigerator nonetheless. That night I slept with 2 pairs of pants tucked into my socks along with 3 layers of long sleeves and my leather jacket. It was also my birthday. I finished my second decade of life in Argentina!

Okay! That’s all I have! Here are some pics

Day III -- Camara XXI, Jackets, and Milanesa Fun!

Hi all, my name is Mia Murray, and I am one of Shrine's sopranos. I am so proud and excited to have served as this choir's president during an international travel year, and oh boy, have we made the most of every day here so far!  After the first sleep in a bed after my first EVER flight, it's no surprise that me and my accountabilibuddy, Bailey, slept in a little bit before our 9am call in the lobby for breakfast. We grabbed some traditional Argentinian snacks and some jugo to sip on our way out for our NAU-only rehearsal.  Shrine Subway Alert! We are navigating our way through the public transportation one trip at a time. Every stop we got off on today had a unique aesthetic, and we even got to experience some subway performers, both on the cabs and while waiting.  Once off the subway, we took a beautiful walk through the city to get to and from the gorgeous dance studio we rehearsed in. For two hours, we got to sing in a wonderful studio space in the heart of Bue...

Day 4- The Day of Dance 💃🕺

¡Hola! Me llamo Hope y canto como soprano dos en Shrine.  This post is the result of a sudden burst of energy at 2 a.m. after the tango show (of course, lol). It's long, but it's worth it! 💃💃🕺🕺🇦🇷🇦🇷💙💙🎶🎶 The day began with a brisk walk at 7:15am to the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Cathedral and Plaza de Mayo. The sky was a rich idigo hue which highlighted the intricate white architecture beautifully. A phrase I consistently say during this trip is, "woooah that railings, pillars, terrace, etc. is gorgeous...". Additionally, Buenos Aires smells even more like metallic sea air at dawn than midday which was lovely. The city reminds me of Seattle, WA from the misty sea aesthetic and the trees. Fun Fact: the really cool building is the home church of late Pope Francis! It is very elegant and breathtaking. After my morning adventure, I joined more friends to eat an early breakfast at a Cafe. I ordered Cafe de la Leche (coffee) with this coffee cake/pastry-thing that...

Day 14 (?) - To Shrine,

Today we arrived back in the United States after a long almost two weeks of being out of the country. The flight today has allowed me to do a good amount of reflecting on the tour. I won’t lie and say that these past weeks haven’t been without issues but they have brought some of my most incredible memories.  Adjusting to a new culture and trying to get around a city that speaks a different language than me was a tough barrier to get through for the first few days. I was incredibly blessed to have a group of people who allowed me to learn alongside them (with David’s help translating) was an experience I will never forget.  Instead of writing a post talking about how grateful I am for everybody on this trip, I’d like to write about my favorite memories (in order of how I remember them) 1. Getting to Argentina completely exhausted and pushing through to walk through the streets and be blown away by the architecture of the buildings for the first time (this will be a common them...
